Young Blues fall to first defeat away at a strong Southend United side.

Lowestoft Town U19's ticked off the first of their long away journies this season in the Youth Alliance league with a trip to Southend United U19's. After a two week break due to National Cup fixtures and postponements, it was good to be back in action. The Shrimpers were the hosts today who had also played only one in the league so far, beating West Ham United 6-3 at home. They had also played Dagenham & Redbridge last week in the cup and beat them 3-0.

After some heavy traffic on the journey down, the group had to quickly prepare for kick off on arrival. The game started at Garons Park with Southend looking the more dominant and willing side. Lowestoft were deep and having to go through an early spell of home pressure. Just before the tenth minute, Sisanda Maguranyanga won and converted a penalty for the home side.

The young Blues struggled to get going from this point onwards and although effort couldn't be faulted, soon found themsleves conceding a quickfire double with Sisanda Maguranyanga completing his hat trick within the twenty-four minutes. The home side added a fourth just before half time when Nik Zlatev found space and finished well. Lowestoft to their credit, had some chances on the break in the first half and hit the crossbar just before half time when Ashton Blogg came close from a freekick.

HALF TIME 4-0.

The Blues deflated and reminded of the ruthless nature of this competitive division found themselves with a mountain to climb in the second half. The group target was to deliver a clean sheet and try and win the next half of football. The whistle blew and Lowestoft instantly looked a lot more aggressive and in control of the game. After having large spells of the ball in the second half and creating a few chances, the goal came on the 75th minute when Luca Upton slipped Archy Gore through to net his first goal for the side.

The young Trawlerboys continued to create and look the better side but couldn't find another goal. FULL TIME 4-1. Lowestoft Town U19's given a ruthless lesson against a very organised Southend United team in the first half left Lowestoft with too big of a mountain to climb. To the away sides credit, they never gave up and looked a different side in the second half. Man of the match awarded to Archy Gore for his debut and willingness to run and work hard for the team.

A well taken goal was the least he and the team deserved for their second half display. The team will review the game and prepare now for next Wednesday when they face Aveley U19's at home.
