Young Trawlerboys hit Bishop's Stortford for five!

Lowestoft Town U19's were on the road today visiting Bishop's Stortford. This was the Young Blues fifth game of 2025 with the group hoping to remain unbeaten with them currently winning three and drawing one most recently at home to Barking FC. Bishop's Stortford were the hosts today who visited Lowestoft before Christmas, drawing 1-1. The home side were currently sitting seventh in the National Youth Alliance league after winning their last two games. Stortford had only lost one at home so far this season showing this wasn't going to be an easy game for Lowestoft. Four changes were made to the Lowestoft side that drew with Barking last week with Luan Porter, Christian Guymer, Ashton Blogg, & Harvey Gooch coming into the line-up.T

he match kicked off in Essex with both teams vying for control early on. However, it was Lowestoft who struck first after just five minutes. Ben Atkinson flicked a header into the path of Harvey Gooch, who cleverly cut inside before finishing beyond the Stortford goalkeeper, giving the visitors an early advantage. The first goal seemed to settle Lowestoft into their rhythm, and they doubled their lead on the half-hour mark. Atkinson again was the provider, this time playing a ball back to Samuel Howell on the edge of the box. Howell composed himself and guided the ball into the top left corner, leaving the Stortford keeper with no chance. Things took a turn for the worse for the home side in the 37th minute, as they were reduced to 10 men following a nasty challenge on Freddie Simmons. Despite being a man down, Stortford battled hard to stay in the game, but they went into the break trailing 0-2.

HALF TIME: 0-2T

he second half started with Lowestoft firmly in control, dominating possession as they looked to kill off the game. Stortford, now a man short, sought to counter-attack when they regained possession but struggled to break down Lowestoft's defensive setup. The third goal came on the hour mark. Bailey Sutton’s initial attempt was well saved by the Stortford goalkeeper, but the ball fell kindly to Luca Upton, who made no mistake to give Lowestoft a 0-3 lead. Just five minutes later, Lowestoft had their fourth. Ashton Blogg drove forward, playing a perfectly weighted ball to Upton, who hit a superb first-time volley into the Stortford net, making it 0-4 and leaving the home side with little hope of a comeback. Lowestoft completed the rout in the 79th minute. A powerful shot from Toby Wooldridge was parried by the Stortford goalkeeper, and the rebound fell to Coby Lee, who finished confidently to make it 0-5.

The Young Blues return to the Fosters Solicitors Community Stadium next Wednesday where they face Kings Lynn Town FC.
