Lowestoft Town U19's were on the road today visiting Barking FC. After scoring eight at Dorking Wanderers in the National Cup last week, the group were looking to build on their impressive victory on the road. Barking FC were the hosts today who are consistently a top team in the National Youth Alliance division. In their three league games to date, they have beat both Chelmsford City and Billericay Town by four goals showing their strengths in offence and defense. Three changes were made to the Lowestoft side today with Fletcher Littlechild, Coby Lee, and Corbyn Dixon coming into the line-up.
The game kicked off and within a minute Lowestoft had the lead. A cross from the left hand side was headed clear only to Ashton Blogg who unleashed a powerful half volley that left the Barking goalkeeper no chance. The young Blues had prepared all week for the direct play style the home team try and impose, dealing with the early pressure well. In the 15th minute, Lowestoft doubled their lead through some good work from Luca Upton. Ashton Blogg found Luca on the left who saw his effort parried into an onrushing Barking defender and trickle over the line. The first half continued in a similar format with the home side having plenty of possession in their own half but struggling to break the Lowestoft back-line. A big chance fell to the hosts just before the break when Victor Umeh managed to evade the Lowestoft defense but was denied by an outstanding save by goalkeeper Jack Trowbridge. HALF TIME 0-2. The group were praised for their hard work and ruthless nature once again infront of goal. The aim for the second half was to score the next goal in the game and try and hold on to the clean sheet. The game restarted with Barking giving everything they had to get back into the game. Once again, the Trawlerboys remained very tough to break down and looked comfortable with their lead. Around the hour mark, Corbyn Dixon chased down a long ball and won a free-kick on the left side of the penalty area. Ashton Blogg stepped up and whipped a ball into the far corner of the goal giving the away side a three goal lead. This goal hurt the home side who looked defeated after trying everything to get back into this game. Lowestoft remained comfortable and could have added more goals to their scoreline. As the game entered added time, Barking managed to score a consolation goal from a corner kick. This was a shame as the young Blues had done so well throughout the game and deserved a clean sheet. The final minute saw Coby Lee break down the right and unselfishly square the ball to Ben Atkinson who finished well. FULL TIME 1-4.
The young Trawlerboys come out on top at Barking in a hard fought away victory. The win takes them to within a point of second place with a game in hand. Man of the match for today was awarded to Callum Kemp for his outstanding defending and overall display. Callum has performed really well over the last few weeks for the team and is making great progress with his game. A special mention must also go to the other members of the defense for today's resilient and strong defending against a very good Barking attack. The squad will review the performance later in the week before looking towards next weeks break from league action when they make the short visit to Kirkley & Pakefield in the Suffolk U18 Midweek Cup.
